The club followed it up with the Division 3 premiership in 2010. The club won another E Section flag in 1999 and continuing their history of a premiership every 10 years, La Trobe claimed the 2009 Division 4 flag. Success came at the end of the decade when the club won back to back premierships in F Section (1988) and E Section (1989). The club again pooled its resources in the 1980’s to become simply La Trobe University again. Blacks broke through for the club’s first senior flag in 1976 and whilst the Reds had some good individuals they were never able to break out of F Section. The following year with the re-introduction of F Section, the club split into La Trobe Blacks (who retained their place in E Section) and La Trobe Reds (who entered the competition in F Section. Meanwhile, the National Tertiary Education Union and La Trobe will return to Fairwork Australia today, to try to resolve a dispute about the way the job cuts have been handled.La Trobe University were admitted to the VAFA for the 1970 season. He says the university is taking preventative measures to avoid a crisis in the future. It is estimated they will reduce the university's income by a further $23 million over the next four years, on top of a $65 million cost reduction by next year. In a video posted on the staff intranet, vice-chancellor John Dewar says changes outlined in the budget have added to the complexity of the picture. It is understood employees have been given no further information since then but management has called an all-staff forum today. The comments come after news in February that La Trobe was axing 350 jobs as part of a big restructure. La Trobe University's vice-chancellor has told staff the federal budget has added a new layer of uncertainty to the institution's financial situation, in light of mass redundancies announced earlier this year.
